Phase 1 is our foundational course. The course focuses on providing 850 every day, foundational vocabulary which will be built on as the learning progresses through additional phases. In phase 1, we practice basic speaking and also teach the Nepali script and numbers. The course is 8 weeks long (110hrs) with class times either in our morning slot (9am-12noon) or afternoon (1pm-4pm) Monday through Friday.
Phase 2 builds on the vocabulary established in Phase 1 by using that vocabulary to start speaking more and telling simple stories. During this phase, we add another 1000-1500 words. The course lasts 10 weeks (150hrs) following the same schedule as phase 1, with class times either in our morning slot (9am-12noon) or afternoon (1pm-4pm) Monday through Friday.
Note: For phase 2 and above, you will be asked to take an assessment to see which phase will be the best fit for you.
Phase 3 uses stories you both know to progress into more and more abstract words and concepts as well as more complex story structures. We use global stories (such as snow white and the three little pigs), and local cultural stories and myths further along in the phase. Phase 3 is 16 1/2 weeks (250hrs) following our same schedule with class times either in our morning slot (9am-12noon) or afternoon (1pm-4pm) Monday through Friday.
Note: For phase 2 and above, you will be asked to take an assessment to see which phase will be the best fit for you.
Phase 4 focuses on life stories and engaging with Nepali people on a deeper level to better understand their language and culture. This phase is different from phases 1-3 in that, GPA recommends having 4-6 different language mentors to assist your growth so we would provide a mentor to help you progress and also help you know how to do the activities correctly with your other mentors. The scheduling for this phase is more flexible and meets 2 or 3 times a week for 3 hours per day.
Note: For phase 2 and above, you will be asked to take an assessment to see which phase will be the best fit for you.
Phase 5 is the native-to-native phase where we focus on how locals speak with each other. This covers documentaries, speeches, movies and other materials developed specifically for a Nepali audience. For this phase we provide you with a mentor to help you clarify the material and also come up with areas of focus to help you continue progressing. The scheduling for this phase is more flexible and meets 2 or 3 times a week for 3 hours per day.
Note: For phase 2 and above, you will be asked to take an assessment to see which phase will be the best fit for you.
Phase 6 is done on your own, as your regular language learning experience. You are doing life with people and learning with the people.
